It has been a busy week for us here at Burr Ridge. I saw many of you more than once this week… at committee meetings and prayer meeting.

Some of you have been sick… I’m not going to list names but you know who you are! I truly hope you all feel better soon.

Those of you who ordered devotional books or the Laugh Your Way to a Better Marriage DVD set may still owe the church some money. Please make sure that you pay what you owe. Make sure to identify what the money is for so that we can mark you of our list. We also have two extra adult devotional books if anyone wants them.

In two weeks, on February 2, Hadassah and I would like to extend a special lunch invitation to those of you who have signed up for the Laugh Your Way to a Better Marriage small group meetings. The primary task of this meeting will be to schedule our subsequent meetings. If you signed up, please let me know if you can make it on the 2nd

Don’t forget about our first Sabbath Home Vespers this evening. The Bacchiocchi’s have graciously opened their home to us at 5:30pm this evening. All are welcome! Pizza will be provided, so bring a small snack or salad of some kind and come have fun!

What an interesting week it has been for the news media. After falling all over themselves—all but declaring Barak Obama president, Hillary Clinton ended up winning the primary in New Hampshire. Regardless of how you feel about the race, there is something deliciously pleasurable in seeing the pundits and pollsters get it wrong. Proverbs says, “Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall” (16:18). It also says, “He who listens to a life-giving rebuke will be at home among the wise” (15:28). So, if you are pundit or a pollster, learn from your mistake and be more careful next time. If you are neither pundit nor pollster, don’t laugh too hard… what rash conclusions have you drawn? What lessons do you need to learn?

On Tuesday I had the honor of officiating at the grave-side service for one Ruth Cranston. Mrs. Cranston was a life long Adventist. Her daughter, Ruth Ann, found us on the website and asked me for assistance in burying her mom. Mrs. Cranston was six days from being ninety-six years old.

We have several meetings scheduled for next week. Monday at 7:00pm we will be having an outreach committee meeting. Tuesday at 7:00pm we will be having a Church Board meeting, followed by a special meeting the conference officials have asked me to call.

If you ordered devotional books for 2008, make sure you channel your payment back to the church. Indicate on your check or on an offering envelope what your “payment” is for. Same goes for those of you who purchased the Laugh Your Way to a Batter Marriage dvd set.
